Hey, this is Gustavo, welcome to my website!

I design and develop of high-performance linear solvers based on hierarchical matrices, currently as a postdoctoral researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab).

Gustavo Chávez KAUST

I have authored conference and journal papers, patent applications, and technical reports; some of them in collaboration with industry partners such as Saudi Aramco, Boeing, and CISCO.

Born and raised in Mexico City, I graduated summa cum laude from UNITEC as a software developer. After a brief period in industry, I moved to Saudi Arabia to do a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at KAUST. I graduated with the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence and after that I did a Ph.D. in Computer Science.

Here is my latest CV, a compilation of my academic work can be found here.

My day job is to contribute to the scalable solver STRUMPACK, other open source contributions can be found on my Github. I tweet about technology, high-performance computing, and machine learning as @gusChvz.

I am happy to talk about my experience in both industry and academia, or about the places I’ve lived. If I can be of any help, feel free to contact me, I’m a good listener too.
